When everything is possible nothing is possible

1–2 minutes

It’s all very well being able to do what you want, but after all, what do you want? This a bit of a play on a Matthew Arnold quote. He said, “It is a very great thing to be able to think as you like, but after all, an important question remains. What do you think?”

With an abundance of apps, software and tools, shopping, social media and all of the myriad of choices we have, we’re overwhelmed. When we have everything at our fingertips, every conceivable option, very often what happens is, we don’t do anything. We end up doing nothing. Or at worst, we waste time on the wrong things.

And so what it comes down to is a question of focus and attention. We have to decide what we want. What we want influences how we think and vice versa.

Once you have established these basics, we can think about the tools that we need to help get what we want done. This forms our thinking and helps us achieve what we want to achieve.

It’s a virtuous circle.

It doesn’t matter too much which you start with, the thinking or the doing. As long as you pay attention and are aware of the thinking and doing constantly.

It determines how we spend our time. I’ve written about this before: Choose carefully how you spend your time.

The type of people we become is determined by how we spend our time which is determined by how we think.

I am making a commitment to double down on my time spent on focused doing and thinking, to a few choice tools and pursuits and this site and writing is one of them.

What are you thinking or doing today?
