The ways and means of technology adoption and strategy

2–3 minutes

Last week I wrote about Microsoft’s Viva [employee experience platform] supporting adoption of it’s new AI technology Copilot which is embedded in the Microsft 365 productivity suite (disclosure). This week I wanted to contextualise things a little. Other than just supporting adoption of a new technology like Copilot, Microsoft Viva has to be considered much more broadly.

First to say that both are technologies and regardless of what role either play, you have to have a strategy for them. They are after all just tools. This is what I mean by the title of this post, if the way is the high performing organisation (strategy), then the means are Microsoft Viva and Copilot (technology).

For more on what creates a high performing organisation, see the video below. But first, the context of a lot of this is transformation. That’s a big word with loaded meaning, not all good since its bandied about for just about everything. If you don’t believe we are undergoing a fundamental shift wrought by the advent of new technologies, consider the trajectory of the below technologies and the impact each has had.

Regardless of your views, I think everyone can agree, many are even worrying, that AI is having an impact.

One very important added consideration is the employee experience when AI impacts us at work. I believe then that the employee experience becomes critical to your strategy, especially in combination with use of AI as I wrote about here, based on recent research: Future of humain work – research.

📢 Shameless plug time. Mostly this posts is for my own sense making purposes, as I am often doing and maybe it puts my last post in context and makes some sense to you. It’s also part of my new trend report on the Future of HumAIn Work. 📢

So here is a short video of how Microsoft is thinking about it. And just to add to what you may have read in my disclosure, the views expressed are a combination of Microsoft’s publicly shared views (The New Performance Equation in the Age of AI) and some internal but non confidential information. I have merely added the commentary by way of explanation.

[…] Technologies like Microsoft Viva (disclosure), the platform positioned to transform the employee experience by engaging employees and aligning them to new enterprise strategies, are a key tool when leveraging market or technology disruptions. I wrote a little about that here: The ways and means of technology adoption and strategy. […]
